BEHIND THE BRAND with Scandiluxe
WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY LOOK LIKE?
Nikki - With our oldest Cedar at school and Hendrix our youngest still at home majority of the week my average day probably looks like any other but with a lot of planning and prioritising - I tend to map out the day with doing all of my jobs in the morning after school drop off, ie invoicing, emailing, wrapping and posting orders them make sure the rest of the day is spend around Hendrix. He is our 'wild child' and we spend a lot of time in the sandpit and gardening.
Julian - Because I still work a full-time job as a carpenter I also need to map out my day. I have a small morning routine consisting of meditation, stretching, coffee and planning my audiobooks or podcast list for the day. Nikki then does my Scandiluxe 'to do list' on the workshop whiteboard which consists of any jobs I need to get done that day. Followed by another coffee and of course hanging with the boys.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
Currently finalising our bathroom range and a new e-design service.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR HOME
Whilst renovating a 1950's fibro cottage we first had planned to renovate and flip but over time we fell in love with the area, sense of community and the house.
It has been a slow but progressive renovation - we wanted to create something timeless and charming by keeping some of the original features. With traditional Scandinavian in mind, the house also has a natural coastal feel with being only a km from the seaside.
Our products (kink wall hooks) were originally created for our own purpose, basically scratching our own itch. We quickly realised that people liked them just as much as we did; we wanted to impress our customers in terms of craftsmanship & quality and connect with their desires and the necessity for the products themselves.
WHATS YOUR INTERIOR STYLE
We have a love for simplicity and nature especially natural timbers, Neutral pallets that are built upon a basis of layering elements of all styles that create a sophisticated and timeless interior.
FAVOURITE LIVING RITUALS
Nikki - yoga, practising mindfulness, copious amounts of green tea
Julian - Meditation, stretching, audiobooks, podcasts and bulletproof coffee
We both love - Reading to the boys. From as young as we can remember, every night we have read to the boys, each taking turns separately reading to them and alternating between the boys each night. Our weekends always consist of family breakfasts, with Julian on the eggs Saturday and me doing Dutch pancakes on Sunday (a family recipe)
TRAVEL DESTINATION
With no particular "go to travel destination' we have travelled somewhat, Japan with the boys was our last trip and a few other spots around the world before we had the kids. The plan is to travel more with the boys as we have family in The Netherlands and Spain. New Zealand is home to both of us, so we travel back every few years to visit family.
WHAT ARE YOU COLLECTING
Nikki - There's always something for the house I'm longing for, however, I only spend where necessary and if it pulls on the heart strings - I guess you could say I collect 'nice' things!
Julian - Audiobooks and podcasts. I listen to lots of content and have done for years.
FRAGRANCE
Nikki - Jo Malone - nectarine, blossom and honey
Julian - Victor and Rolf - spice bomb

MOST IMPORTANT THING IN YOUR HOME
With 2 boys, a renovation and a small business we spend a lot of time at home. We live simply and love the idea of slow living. We feel that the most important thing in a home is how it feels, the comfort, finding joy in all the imperfections of your home, ie the dents, scratches and general characteristics of your home, made by your children :) oh and an abundance of greenery and flora! a great garden will make a house a home.
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION
Probably the most obvious we are inspired by Scandinavian interiors/exteriors and living, raw materials and nature. We have a love for understated timeless design that combines natural elements, craftsmanship and functionality.
WHATS THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR BUSINESS
As many other small businesses know growth is the next step always, sustainable growth. We plan to grow our business/brand by introducing new products and services.
